DECEMBER: ENJOY THE MAGIC OF THE HOLIDAYS ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE
Welcome December!
The Altopiano del Sole is buzzing with excitement for the arrival of this magical month, with an array of unmissable events and offerings! The undisputed star of December is the long-awaited snow, which has already arrived to whitewash the Altopiano’s green pastures and forests to the delight of locals and the many winter sports enthusiasts. Yet, it is not the only attraction that makes this time of year so wonderful.
In this article, let’s find out together what you can do in December in the Altopiano del Sole area.
BE ENCHANTED BY THE BEAUTY OF NATIVITY SCENES
Among the Christmas customs that are particularly heartfelt in the area, special mention should be given to the activity of setting up nativity scenes, the result of the combination of Christian tradition and artisan talent that characterizes these places.
In Borno, starting December 8th, you can visit the Mechanical Nativity Scene handmade by Gino Vanoli at the small church of San Fiorino: a true work of art that conveys all the passion and talent of the craftsman, transporting the observer to a historical landscape, in the midst of the solemnity of the birth of Jesus.
The Annunciata locality of Piancogno will also be transformed into a stage for the staging of the Living Nativity Scene, organized by the community of Franciscan friars and the villagers. On Wednesday, December 8th, there will be a procession in stages along the road leading to the Convent, where, at the end of the parade, Holy Mass will be celebrated on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. In addition, a stupendous nativity scene made in the Renaissance style is preserved inside the monastery, which will be open to the public during the Christmas holidays.
EVENTS ON ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE
Another event to prepare for Christmas will be the choirs singing at “Stella Appar” at the Church of SS. Peter and Paul in Villa di Lozio, scheduled for the evening of Saturday, Dec. 11th.
On Sunday, Dec. 12th, Piancogno will celebrate the arrival of Santa Lucia with a day of Christmas markets and singing. In addition, for the happiness of children, a magical cart will allow them to mail their “dreams” enclosed in a letter for long-awaited Santa.
In the village of Ossimo Inferiore, also on Saturday, December 18th, you can participate in the “Walk of the Santas of the Altopiano del Sole”, a non-competitive walk of about 4 km through the streets of the village, at the end of which hot tea and mulled wine will be served. Tradition not to be missed!
Finally, from December 23rd to January 9th, the beautiful location of Villa Guidetti Park in Borno will host the Christmas Markets, with workshops for kids and stalls that will allow you to experience the magic of this special time of the year.
These are just some of the events scheduled on the Altopiano during the month of December, always organized in full compliance with anti Covid-19 regulations. To stay updated on the latest news, keep following us on our social channels.
