Do you already know what to do in January?
JANUARY: LET’S WELCOME THE NEW YEAR ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE
Happy New Year!
On the Altopiano del Sole, 2022 has arrived: despite the uncertainties of current times, our wish is that this January may be the first of many more months of serenity and satisfaction.
Fortunately, the holidays are not over yet, and for many of us it is the ideal time to do winter sports.
Skiing, snowboarding, ski mountaineering, bobsledding, snowshoeing and skating are among the most popular activities when the “White Lady” envelops the landscape with her mantle, and on the Altopiano del Sole there is no shortage of opportunities to enjoy them.
January is the perfect month for winter sports, and here we can have an in-depth look together at how to have fun and experience the mountains safely.
SHORT GUIDE TO SKI MOUNTAINEERING
A sport that has been gaining popularity in recent times is ski mountaineering, in which ski tourers typically go along trails without using lifts and slopes but with skis that allow them to both ascend and descend.
But what rules should we follow to do it safely?
First, it is important to make sure we have the right equipment.
There are in fact specific types of skis for ski mountaineering, which differ from downhill skis in that they are wider and lighter. Adhesive skins are then applied to the base, which help the person to avoid slipping when ascending the trails and descending on fresh snow.
As for clothing, it is advisable to dress in layers with technical and breathable clothing, while it’s essential to have a ski helmet, snowshoes and crampons, which are very useful in case of ice.
In addition, the law requires the provision of a safety kit consisting of ARTVA, probe and shovel, essential tools for localization in case of an avalanche. The first device consists of a transceiver that, depending on how it is used, transmits or receives a signal by which a person buried under snow can be identified. The probe is essential for pinpointing the exact location, and the shovel, on the other hand, is used to dig into the fresh snow in search of the person.
Before venturing out on a ski mountaineering trip it is therefore necessary to make sure that you have all this equipment on hand, without forgetting that in the mountains the weather also varies greatly depending on the time of day, which is why it is always a good idea to consult the weather forecast carefully.
EXPERIENCE THE THRILL OF SKI MOUNTAINEERING ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE
On the Altopiano del Sole you can experience the unique thrill of this activity, which allows those who practice it to admire and enjoy the beauty of the natural snowy landscape.
Starting January 11th, on the Altopiano del Sole’s lifts, evenings dedicated to enthusiasts will begin again, so why not go up to the ski area and experience the thrill of night skiing? During these occasions, it is not necessary to be equipped with an Artva safety kit, since the trail runs along prepared slopes.
