We welcome February: a very versatile month that offers the opportunity to enjoy outdoor experiences, enjoying the snow and the winter climate, but also to take advantage of events such as Valentine’s Day or Carnival to discover local folk traditions and food and wine.

On the Altopiano del Sole, the ski-alper evenings on the ski slopes of the Borno Ski Area continue, organised every Tuesday and Thursday evening. As the hours of sunshine increase, this experience becomes even more evocative, giving those who decide to try their hand at the ascent spectacular sunsets and skies.

FEBRUARY BETWEEN SKI MOUNTAINEERING AND SNOWSHOEING

February’s calendar of events on the Altopiano del Sole opens on Sunday 4 with the 5th ski-mountaineering meeting in the beautiful Lozio Valley. An event dedicated to all ski-alpers who wish to test their skills amidst high-altitude landscapes, unspoilt nature and an itinerary designed to entertain all participants.

Once again this year, it will be possible to take advantage of the ski transport service until the snow begins, and after the excursion there will be lunch with friends and an afternoon of music and fun.

Saturday 10 February sees the return of the night walk “Walking with the moon” in the heart of Val Sorda, an event now in its 17th year.

The formula is always the same: two routes starting from Croce di Salven, one “EXPERTS” of around 12 km with 450 m of altitude difference, and one “FAMILY” of around 7 km, which can be covered, snow permitting, with snowshoes or, with boots and crampons on your feet. Waiting for the participants at the Val Sorda refuge will be an abundant refreshment point, where they can refresh themselves before completing the loop and returning to the starting point.

CARNIVAL ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE

February also hosts the most cheerful and lively festival of the year: Carnival.

For the occasion, adults and children alike will parade through the streets of the villages on the Altopiano del Sole, wearing masks and costumes of all kinds, accompanied by colourful floats set up ad hoc to create a truly enthralling atmosphere.

It starts in the afternoon of Saturday 10 February with the Ossimo Inferiore Carnival, while on Sunday 11 the parade will animate the streets of the historic centre of Borno, starting from the skating rink in Dassa. To conclude both days in style, there will be dancing, music and a sweet snack for everyone.

VALENTINE’S DAY ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE

Let’s not forget that February is also the most romantic month of the year, with the traditional Valentine’s Day.
