The month of Christmas, festivities and mountain holidays in the snow. The Altopiano del Sole is a magical destination at this time of year: the small villages decked out in festive decorations, the first snow that whitens the landscape, the opening of the ski resort and many opportunities to spend days in contact with nature and discovering the area’s attractions.
In December, the little ones await the arrival of Santa Lucia and Father Christmas, and the events calendar is full of opportunities and initiatives to celebrate these special moments together.
Among Christmas markets, concerts, festivals and the ever-present New Year’s Eve party in the square in Borno, the Altopiano del Sole is an ideal destination for families, young people and all those who wish to spend a few days in a unique destination.
And for those in search of relax and good food, there is no shortage of opportunities to taste typical mountain flavours in local restaurants and inns, accompanied by the warmth of tradition.

EVENTS, MARKETS AND FESTIVALS

To get the festive season off to a good start, we recommend the inauguration of Italy’s largest Christmas Village in Piancogno, Saturday 7 December from 16:00. A work of art created by Michele Rodella, consisting of about 80 square metres of snowy landscapes, Father Christmas village, merry-go-rounds and animations. New for 2024 will be Fantasy World, a village within a village with all the main cartoon and fairy tale characters. The Christmas village will be set up at Via Nazionale 17 in Piancogno and will be open every day from 17:00 to 19:00 and from 20:00 to 21:00.

On December 14th and 15th “Bimboland“: rrives at the PalaVibi in Piamborno: a Christmas fair dedicated to the little ones, with inflatables, face painting, exhibitors and the presence of special guests such as Santa Lucia, Father Christmas and his super team of elves, who will make you spend two days of family fun.

After last year’s success, the ‘Christmas in a Sleigh’ event will be repeated in Piancogno on Friday 20 December: an evening of markets, singing, dancing, a Christmas show and the return of the fantastic ‘Slitù’ (the team competition to pull Santa’s sleigh). On 27 December, the ‘Sagra del Porsel’ (Porsel Festival) returns to Ossimo Superiore, an event where the protagonists will be the local salami and the traditional pork butcher’s work, with food stands and entertainment.

On the same date, the ‘Festival del Bosco’ (Forest Festival) is scheduled: a sound walk through the Pat Valley, discovering the sounds of the forest.

Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 December in Borno you will find the Handicrafts and Typical Products Markets, for a truly authentic Christmas.

CHRISTMAS NOTES

Music is undoubtedly one of the great protagonists of the month of December on the Altopiano del Sole. On Sunday, 8 December, the parish church of Borno will host a moment of music and spirituality on the occasion of the Immaculate Conception, while in Piancogno, on the same date, the lighting of the Christmas tree, accompanied by songs and voices, is planned.
On Saturday, 14 December, at the Convento dell’Annunciata in Piancogno, the event ‘Luci per il Giubileo: un concerto per riaccendere la croce dell’Annunciata’ (Lights for the Jubilee: a concert to rekindle the cross of the Annunciata) with the Vivaldi Orchestra is scheduled.
At the theatre of the Piamborno oratory, on Saturday 21 December you can attend ‘Natalissima’, the classic musical event to exchange Christmas greetings, organised by the Ars Camunnorum and Gruppo Musica Insieme Lab associations.
On Monday 23 December, the San Filippo Neri choir will perform in the parish church of Cogno for the Christmas concert, which will be repeated on Saturday 28 December at the Convento dell’Annunciata.
December sees the return of the travelling pastorals through the streets of Borno (Wednesday 24), as well as the Live Music concert ‘A Winter’s Night’ organised by the Circolo Culturale La Gazza, scheduled for Thursday 26 December in the Congress Hall.

The Corpo Musicale S.Cecilia will hold the traditional ‘Concert Under the Tree’ on Friday 27 December in the municipal gym in Borno, where a double date with music is scheduled for Saturday: in the afternoon in the congress hall it will be possible to attend ‘Suoni & Arcani’ – Bagno di Suoni alla scoperta del proprio arcano 2025, while at 21:00 the ‘Amici del Canto’ choir will perform during the ‘Echi di Natale’ choral review in the parish church.

END OF YEAR MUSIC

New Year’s Eve in Borno has a completely different rhythm: in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II the music will start on Sunday 29 December with the concert of the cover band ‘Vascombriccola’, to be followed on Monday 30 by an evening with hits from the 80s and 90s, while waiting for the traditional New Year’s Eve party in the company of DJ Frank Van Janek, SFRNK and Kledi.
