Do you already know what to do in February?
EXPERIENCE FEBRUARY ON THE ALTOPIANO DEL SOLE
February is the month of lovers, and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a romantic getaway on the Altopiano del Sole?
At this time of year, the snow-capped peaks become magical destinations for winter sports enthusiasts: from Monte Altissimo with the Borno Ski Area, to the Moren group, Pizzo Camino or the Ezendola peak, there is no shortage of opportunities to venture to high altitudes with mountaineering skis, snowshoes or crampons, to enjoy the snow-covered landscapes.
Those, on the other hand, who prefer a more relaxing stay, can visit the small villages and their attractions: squares, churches and nature parks will surely win over even the most romantic hearts, strolling hand in hand through the cobbled streets and stopping for a break in one of the local bars or restaurants, where you can savour the taste of tradition.
February is also the month of Carnival:a festival that colours the villages of the Altopiano del Sole with masks and confetti, for the enjoyment of young and old alike.
But what are the events not to be missed in February on the Altopiano del Sole? We discuss them in this new article:
SNOWSHOEING AND SNOW EVENTS
We kick off the events column for the month of February with the return of Passeggiando con la Luna (Walking with the Moon), the nocturnal snowshoe hike in the silence of Val Sorda.
Saturday 8 February will see the 18th edition of the event, which offers two different routes to venture along one of the area’s most evocative itineraries: ‘FAMILY’ – 7 km and departure at 6 p.m. from Croce di Salven, and ‘EXPERTS’ – approximately 12 km, 450 m of altitude difference and departure at 5 p.m.
The two groups will rejoin at the Val Sorda refuge, where there will be an abundant refreshment point to refresh oneself before setting off on the return journey.
Registration for the event is open until Wednesday 5 February.
On Saturday, 22 February, we would like to point out the Ciaspolata nella Valle di Lozio (Snowshoe hike in the Lozio Valley), a non-competitive walk with snowshoes along a route of about 10 km and with an altitude difference of 550 metres, through the unspoilt landscapes of the Lozio Valley.
The event will have as its meeting point the churchyard of Villa di Lozio and, on the way back, those who wish can join the dinner with entertainment planned to end the evening on a high note.
Compulsory registration at 331.2068525.
Also in the month of February, the Borno Ski Area proposes skialp evenings, which make it possible to reach the refuge on touring skis, snowshoes or crampons at sunset, for a unique experience under the starry sky.
Ascents are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. onwards, with the obligation to descend by 10 p.m. and headlamps both uphill and downhill. For real time updates and communications, please consult the official Borno Ski Area channels.

CARNIVAL
Carnival on the Altopiano del Sole offers days of celebration for young and old.
In Borno, the traditional parade with departure from the skating rink and arrival in the square is scheduled for Sunday, 23 February starting at 14:30. It will be an afternoon of music, dancing and extravagant costumes, at the end of which there will be a sweet snack for everyone. (In case of rain, the event will be held at the skating rink).
In Piancogno, Carnival is tinged with mystery with the ‘Colpo da Maschera’ murder mystery dinner.
On Saturday 22 February at 19:45, the evening will begin at the Hotel Due Magnolie, for all participants to enjoy an experience of taste, mystery, and fun, amid investigations and twists.

VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL
Are you looking for the perfect destination to surprise your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day?
The Altopiano del Sole is a fairytale land, where nature offers breathtaking views and romantic atmospheres. Here are some ideas to make your stay even more special:
- BELVEDERE DELL’ANNUNCIATA
The Belvedere dell’Annunciata in Piancogno is a must for anyone looking for a romantic place to be enchanted by the colours of the sunset. From the balcony, the panorama opens out over the Camonica Valley and its mountains, as far as Lake Iseo, leaving those who admire it literally open-mouthed. Nearby, it is worth visiting the Convento dell’Annunciata and its church, places of spirituality, history and art.
- LAKE LOVA
Lake Lova is a perfect destination for those who love walking in the mountains, and at this time of year it is not infrequently frozen, covered in a white blanket that makes it even more magical. Starting from the Navertino locality in Borno, you can reach the lake in about 45 minutes on foot, taking the path that runs to the right from the main road. To impress your partner, our advice is to bring along a tasty snack, perhaps based on typical products such as spongada (local sweet focaccia) and a good local sausage, for a break in the picnic areas overlooking the lake where you can relax on the comfortable chaise-lounges.
- LOZIO BIG BENCH
For a great love, you need a great bench. The Giant Bench in Lozio, at ‘Dos de l’Ora’, offers a spectacular view of the Lozio Valley and is perfect for a picnic together. According to tradition, in the past, shepherds from the various hamlets of Lozio and neighbouring municipalities used to meet here to spend long evenings together, admiring the view as far as the tip of Lake Iseo and waiting for the wind (l’Ora) to bring news from the bottom of the valley. The Panchina Gigante di Lozio can be reached starting from the hamlet of Laveno, along a dirt road about 2 km long.
- LAGO MORO AND ANFURRO
Lake Moro is one of the most romantic destinations in the entire area. Framed by woods, hills and mountains, it is a very romantic destination for a walk for two around the perimeter of the lake. After the walk, the advice is to make a stop at Anfurro, a hamlet of Angolo Terme. Park your car near the little church of Santi Nazzaro e Celso and enjoy a spectacular sunset from the cross of the little church, hugging the villages of the lower valley, Lake Moro and Lake Iseo.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
