OSSIMO
The two hamlets that make up the Municipality of Ossimo are located at about 800 meters on the lower edge of the Borno altopiano.
Ossimo Superiore stands on a hillock on the southern slopes of Monte Mignone, and is connected to Borno and Villa di Lozio by the ancient Borno-Lozio road. Ossimo Inferiore stands on the eastern pass of the Borno altopiano, in a basin bordered by the San Damiano hill and sloping down towards the deep gorge of the Trobiolo stream, on the road that leads to the Sanctuary of the Santissima Annunciata and Piancogno.
There have been many discoveries of statue-stelae, historiated boulders, petroglyphs, coins and prehistoric tombs.
The antiquity of Ossimo Inferiore is demonstrated by the discovery of prehistoric stelae, medieval pottery, Roman tiles and a probable castle on the hill of San Damiano.
There are several buildings of historical value, some dating back to the 15th-16th century. For example, Palazzo Rizzieri and the Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, which seems to have been built on the remains of an old ruin, most likely a castle or stronghold.
In Ossimo Inferiore there is the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, which hosts important eighteenth-century frescoes.
THE ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF VALLE CAMONICA
The Ethnographic Museum of Valle Camonica is of particular importance. It was inaugurated in 1995, and houses commonly used tools and objects dating back to a few decades ago. Among these, of particular interest there is the carda – a tool used to card wool -, a flask, and wooden ladles. Visiting the Ethnographic Museum is not just a visit to the museum: it is a journey into the past, in a traditional mountain house, with the flavors of typical foods and resounding with the evening music and songs broadcast by an ancient valve radio, still preserved in the Museum. with the flavors of typical foods and resounding with the evening music and songs broadcast by an ancient valve radio, still preserved in the Museum.
