82A. Pendici Monte Arano – G. Laeng Refuge m. 1760 – Pizzo Camino m. 2491
Route characteristics
Steep and tiring path with short passages on rocks. Majestic circular panorama from the summit.
Description
From the slopes of Monte Arano, which can be reached from Borno with trail no. 82 in 1:30 hours, trail no. 82a (marked with directional arrows) begins at the border between the forest and the pastureland. Continue along the wide mule track until you come to a rockery, where you turn sharply to the left and take a narrow path zigzagging up Monte Arano.
After leaving a pond on the right, we reach a small pass that leads into the Varicla Valley. The path continues up and down until the Laeng refuge. To ascend to Pizzo Camino, walk to the right of the refuge and, in view of a small lake, turn left and reach a fork (see signs), where you proceed straight ahead into a grassy valley that leads to the moraine base of the mountain. Go up the scree diagonally to the left and then proceed on the steepest slope between stones and a meagre pasture (pay attention to the horizontal signs and the unstable, slippery ground), until you reach a pass.
The path climbs steadily upwards, then turns left towards a gully, which is climbed for a long time on the right-hand side, until reaching a ridge that overlooks the Varicla pass valley. A short flat section is followed to the left, passing between two narrow boulders until reaching a fork that descends into a gully. Climb the steep gully that leads into the final section of the route (taking care not to move unstable boulders). From the summit, a stupendous panorama including the Adamello and Pizzo Bernina.
