Church of Our Lady of Lourdes

This is the “Chiesetta della Dassa”, dedicated to the apparition of the Madonna at Lourdes. The simple church is located just outside the old village centre, on the right-hand side of Via Vittorio Veneto – once called the Dassa municipal road. Consecrated to Our Lady of Lourdes, it was probably built around 1500. The last and perhaps most substantial restoration work, carried out in 1917, revealed the structure as it is today. It was formerly dedicated to Saints Vito and Modesto, who are still depicted in a fresco on the inside walls of the parish church (right side). There is a miniature reproduction of the grotto and statue of Our Lady of Lourdes in a niche above the altar of the chapel. Outside, on the main entrance façade, there is a portico with full-centred arches supported by pillars on the west and south sides. Since the building is not large, there is a single nave. The cross vault is entirely covered in remarkable frescoes depicting the fire of Borno, probably the work (at least restored) of the Borno painter Enrico Peci.
